Cultural Responsibility

We had a staff meeting that looked at some of the documents that are from the ministry to support Māori and Pacific students.

We compared the two documents and looked at the frameworks in both books.

I found the Pasifika Success Compass interesting because I think it could be used for all learners.

I found the Tātaiako Competencies interesting and how some of our school values link into what they are.

Ako - Practice in the classroom and beyond.
Wānanga - Communication, problem solving, innovation.
Manaakitanga - Values: integrity, trust, sincerity, equity.
Tangata Whenuatanga - Place-based, socio-cultural awareness and knowledge.

Maths Inquiry

I have continued to document and set goals on the progress of my two students that I am doing my inquiry on.  Building their knowledge of patterns and the hundreds frame has really impacted their learning and has shown acceleration.  Their testing in Term 3 on PAT showed accelerated improvement for one student and improvement for the other.

One family has been very engaged in their child's learning and have been very open to trying maths at home by using board games, card games to improve their child's maths.

The support I have had through the Maths PLG has been amazing and it has really supported me to identify ways to push and support these learners so that they can achieve to their potential.

Learning Site

This is my third year with a learning site. I find this a really exciting way to share learning with the students as it gives tham a chance to develop self management skills.
